Our preferred time of the year is here! The second ever MozCon Virtual began yesterday with participants from over 35 countries. There were networking spaces, picture booth pics, and live tweets. It practically seemed like we were back together in one location (just minus the donuts).
Lack of donuts aside, everyone was incredibly excited to be back at MozCon for another action-packed conference. The first day’s speakers brought their A-game and actually got individuals thinking.
Currently had several minutes at #MozCon and it’s just Day 1! Can’t await tomorrow. Cheers!

For those of you who might have missed it, or those of you who had a difficult time staying up to date with this 3 ring circus, here’s a quick recap!
Sarah Bird– Welcome to MozCon
Moz’s courageous leader began MozCon Virtual off with a bang! She presented Moz Group, an outcome of the merger with J2. Then, she announced 2 item releases– one in alpha and one in beta! Both will be more explained by Mozzers later on in the week.
A huge statement throughout the opening session at #MozCon today: “The Moz Group” is now a collection of brand names and technologies for digital online marketers: pic.twitter.com/F62glc6b89

Shannon McGuirk– Lessons in Enduring the Covid News Agenda & & What it Implies for the Future of Digital PR
As always, Shannon started out strong with some radical openness. She strolled us through Aira’s journey through COVID and how it altered whatever.
I have so much love for @ShannonMcGuirk_‘s raw sincerity #MozCon pic.twitter.com/lxo08YJS4K– Areej AbuAli(@areej_abuali)July 12, 2021 In
past MozCon presentations, Shannon has actually revealed us the outreach methods that Aira has actually depended on for several years, however 2020 threw everyone for a loop. In the first
two weeks of lockdown, Aira lost 50% of their revenue. Something had to change. Actually, whatever needed to alter. We got insight into Aira’s three-prong, PR future-proofing system that established as an outcome: Ideation: using the ROR structure of relevancy, opinion
, resolution Production: produce tested structures that can be personalized for your client Promo: through accessing, interacting, and having point of view Shannon gave us the nitty gritty of how
this system works for Aira, total with real photos of their best-performing
, always-ready structures. Honestly, it felt like we were seeing something
private, but we were here for it. Um, I think @ShannonMcGuirk_
is sharing some * serious * @Ariadigital tricks here … They have templates for production that are wireframed and customizable. They run TONS of campaigns off of THREE main templates. #MozCon pic.twitter.com/6PcZ3lIlee– Brie E Anderson (@brie_e_anderson )July 12, 2021 Flavilla Fongang– The Science of Acquiring Behavior: How to Utilize it Efficiently to Bring In & Convert More Potential Customers Into Consumers Flavilla was ready to recommend some tactical medicine to those aiming to increase their conversion rate. She leapt right in with discussing how our brains operate. Ya know, limbic system, neocortex, and reptilian brain? Do not fret, we didn’t either! She broke them down as the emotional brain( limbic), rational(neocortex), and battle
or flight (reptilian). Then Flavilla asked the huge question: which brain has one of the most influence on purchasing decisions? The response(which surprisedmost)was the reptilian brain.
Flavilla took us through 6 methods the reptilian brain can be stimulated. Killer slide from @FlavillaFongang #mozcon pic.twitter.com/6N5OC5jlOz– Noah Student( He/Him)(
@noahlearner)July 12, 2021 However it wouldn’t be a MozCon discussion without something that can be taken into & action today. Flavilla dropped all sorts of techniques to test: putting the CTA closer to the customer’s image, utilizing the power of the gaze, tapping into unfavorable emotion, revealing contrast( think before and after), and putting the most important information initially. We might have listened to Flavilla talk all day. Hearing her take on
buyer behavior was a bit like checking out a glass ball and getting the answer to all of our concerns. We can’t wait to put it into action! Dr. Pete Meyers– Rule Your Competitors: From Data to Action Constantly a crowd pleaser, Dr. Pete showed off a new Moz tool presently in Beta: Real Competitor.
Real Rival is a project Moz has been working on for the last few years
, and this year it’s lastly all set to take the stage!(You can ask for early access to Real Competitor here&.)Dr. Pete used the brand-new tool to advise us that those we presume to be our rivals often aren’t in fact our competition at all. Rather of focusing on who we think we ‘re losing traffic to, we need to be concentrated on who is preventing us from earning money. There’s a huge difference between who you”believe” your competition is andwho you take on in the SERPs. #MozCon– Jason Dodge (@dodgejd)July 12, 2021 Using the new True Rival tool, and a couple of cool search modifiers, Dr. Pete had the ability to discover some chance keywords to evaluate out. The process looked a bit like this: Use True Competitor to identify potential keywords Usage search modifiers to discover the ranking pages for the competitors Discover Moz’s current ranking content Develop material utilizing the similar keywords Link to the most upgraded and relevant material Get Keywords, competitor pages, and my best piece
of material to compete with: @dr_pete #mozcon pic.twitter.com/VFk5beIbvI– Noah Learner (He/Him) (@noahlearner )July 12, 2021 We understood that Dr. Pete would bring the heat, but it’s safe to state he outshined himself this year. Great talk by @dr_pete from the #mozcon. Take aways: Don’t make presumptions about your rivals Do not make a massive novel- come up with a strategy including what is missing out on from your site content issues.Track what works/what doesn’t and modify accordingly.@Moz!.?.!pic.twitter.com/pnUWqeL2vX!.?.!– J Turnbull(@SEOJoBlogs)July 12, 2021 Noah Student– Game-Changing Ways to Utilize the Google Browse Console API This first-time MozCon speaker came all set to play! Right now, Noah provided us some point of view on the actual restrictions of Google Search Console. As the majority of us know, Search Console just provides you access to 1,000 rows. Well, Noah knew that there was a lot more data to be seen and begun dabbling with the API. Obviously this resulted in a 15-hour journey down the GSC bunny hole, as Noah began dealing with creating a customized Google Search Console tool utilizing Huge Question and Google Data Studio. This tool, Explorer for Search, has currently gotten some buzz from those in the market. If you have not seen Search Explorer from @noahlearner
and 2 Octobers you’re losing out. Native GSC is abysmal in comparison. #MozCon– Taylor Murchison(@TaylorMurchison)July 12, 2021 Honestly, if
you take a look at the Twitter feed for #MozCon, there aren’t a lots of tweets due to the fact that nobody might stay up to date with him! Noah moved rapidly through exactly how he
built Explorer for Search with his group, and how they’re using it. Caring

— Jordan Choo( @JordanChoo) July 12, 2021 Nearly immediately, Noah
and his group discovered over$300,000 of keywords that weren’t available in Browse Console . They didthis throughstructure in position sorting,
top of funnel/ bottom of funnel sorting, branded vs. non branded filters, and more. We can not wait to have fun with this and start with the Search Console API!
Dana DiTomaso– Develop for Search: Modern Web Dev That Puts SEO First A long time MozCon preferred, Dana DiTomaso put
way too many times, so she and her group created a much better solution
. She was all set to make us, and our web dev procedures, nimble(ish ). She showed us her team’s whole procedure from presenting keyword research study(IN A PIE CHART?!), to utilizing GatherContent to develop a website blueprint for clients, all the way to wireframe creation and discussion. SEO jobs should not be performed in silos.SEO, UX, Design, Dev, & Content teams must all be involved early and often(as required).
The Agile job management method is a fantastic structure that makes this easy to do.Insights from @danaditomaso’s talk #mozcon pic.twitter.com/Fl5B8ncSG0– Ọla King (@justolaking)July 12, 2021 At each step, anybody can jump in and see what is going on and add to the conversation or procedure.
It’s far less linear and allows for more collaboration. Jackie Chu– Internationalization Errors: How to Go Global Without Losing All of Your Traffic With a track record like Jackie’s, it’s hard to think of not blowing minds. Jackie started by discussing one of the most complex SEO concepts: Hreflang. This description caused a few tactical tips right off of the bat: Specify target language and country Self-canonicalize all URLs Usage constant URL patterns Honestly, there were so many takeaways from this presentation that they were hard to track. Picture, all of that information on Hreflang alone was in the very first 17 slides … and this discussion was 60 slides long! Terrific idea by @jackiecchu about utilizing extra signals beyond hreflang to reveal Google
which version of your site is targeted to which global audience, such as connecting to that country’s particular social profiles, or modifying the NAP to show that nation’s details. #mozcon pic.twitter.com/2T24euwRyZ– Lily Ray(
discussing how 20 years of Google patents describe 3 various types of click signals they might determine: very first clicks, long clicks, and last clicks. He then walked through a wide range of small SEO experiments that tried to affect these click signals to see if he could influence rankings.
Some of the experiments included: Enhancing Meta Descriptions in non-traditional methods Getting Rid Of Title Tag”Boilerplate “Improving the presence of”Associated Articles “Adding Frequently Asked Questions Don’t do it. over 100,000 URLs– and how they enhanced user engagement. What an excellent URL path migration procedure and conduction from @Moz’s SEO team! Moving the Q&A section with some important checklist is something, but also, when it concerns user-generated material, it’s hard to change. So @CyrusShepard featured over 16%success after that. #MozCon pic.twitter.com/bIHk8uVHA6– Roman Adamita (@AdamitaRoman)July 12, 2021 At the end, Cyrus stressed that SEO is not about controling numbers, however that”User complete satisfaction is ranking factor # 1.”After enjoying this presentation, you’ll certainly leave with a number of concepts for engaging your visitor.
